Bathrooms for Kifaru Juu Primary School

A Karimu Social Project

In 2024 we received seven requests from the government for social projects. After a detailed analysis in collaboration with the district director, we prioritized an urgent project: the construction of bathrooms for Kifaru Juu Primary School in Endakiso village, Endakiso ward. Previously, students from this area had to walk 20 km each way to attend school.

To address this challenge, the government initiated the construction of a new school, ensuring that children in the village have access to education closer to home. The government built three classrooms and some temporary bathrooms (shown in the photo at the top).

Karimu and the local community built the permanent bathrooms. The local community dug the foundation for the new bathrooms, brought aggregate and sand for the foundation, and 30,000 bricks for the walls. The new facilities include bathrooms for both students and teachers, wheelchair access, internal and external handwashing basins, facilities for supporting menstruating girls (a shower, sinks and clotheslines for clothes washing, and an incinerator), a water tower and tank for running water, all plumbing and sewage management, and beautiful hygiene murals.

The community is thrilled. The official inauguration was graced by members of parliament for Babati District and the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs as the guest of honor. In his speech, the Deputy Minister praised Karimu for its dedication to improving sanitation and education infrastructure, commending the organization for constructing such beautiful, high quality bathrooms. He emphasized the positive impact this facility will have on students’ health, dignity, and school attendance.
