Ways to Engage

Engage with Karimu and help eliminate poverty

Karmu’s success in poverty elimination is built upon a strong foundation of donors, volunteers, and ambassadors who help spread the word about Karimu. We are run by more than 50 volunteers living in 14 countries. Only our Tanzanian staff members are paid, so overhead is negligible: 98 percent of donated funds go directly to the execution of projects and programs.

Engaging with Karimu means impacting thousands of lives in the following ways.

Donate

US residents and citizens living abroad receive tax credits for their donations.

Swiss residents can receive tax credits by donating to our partner:

Socential AG, Zurich

IBAN: CH86 0839 0038 3956 1000 5

BIC: ABSOCH22

Recipient: Socential AG, Zurich

Please add your name, email, and “For Karimu” in the transfer instructions to receive a tax receipt.

There are many ways to donate, but the best are those without transaction fees for Karimu:

  • Zelle: [email protected].
  • Venmo: @karimufoundation
  • Paypal: Karimu International Help Foundation
  • Check: make your check payable to Karimu International Help Foundation and mailed to Karimu International Help Foundation, 75260 Vista Corona, Palm Desert, CA 92211-9021, USA.
  • For bank transfers, stock transfers, or for more information about donating, contact Nelson Mattos, Karimu Chief Operating Officer, at [email protected].

The easiest is with your credit card by clicking , a button found in the top right corner of any page on our website. Please note, however, that method incurs an approximately 5% transaction fee, which you can optionally cover at the time of your donation.

Other ways to contribute include:

  • Asking your employer about corporate support programs.
  • Utilizing matching gift programs.
  • Creating a legacy by contributing to our endowment or designating Karimu as a beneficiary in your will.

For more information, contact Don Stoll, Karimu Treasurer and co-founder, at [email protected], or Nelson Mattos, Karimu Chief Operating Officer, at [email protected].

Join a volunteer trip

Karimu’s life-changing volunteer trips show you first-hand how we eliminate poverty. Hundreds of people have traveled with Karimu. Many have traveled twice or more because they find the work meaningful and form lasting bonds with the community.

2025 volunteer Klaus Roder writes:

I would recommend this trip to a friend. It’s an incredible experience that leaves a lasting impression. People often talk about “life-changing” experiences, and while that can sound dramatic, this trip genuinely had a meaningful and memorable impact on me that will stay with me for a long long time.

Share expertise

Even if you don’t travel with us, we need volunteers to share skills and expertise. Connect with Karimu’s Tanzanian employees and our many volunteers who are devoted to eliminating poverty. To volunteer in this way, contact Nelson Mattos, Karimu Chief Operating Officer, at [email protected].

Fundraise

  • Host a party and invite friends to learn about Karimu and donate.
  • Ask relatives and friends to donate to Karimu instead of gifts for your birthday or Christmas
  • Donate your talents by, e.g., selling your crafts or artwork.
  • Ask a local restaurant to host an event and donate some of the profits.
  • Present at a local venue.
