Installation of Solar Panels in Four Area Schools

Without electricity schools cannot have electrical equipment or lights needed to be used after hours.

Lack of access to electricity is a major problem where Karimu works, as in most of rural Africa, and these four schools are either far from the power grid or unable to afford access to that grid. For this reason, schools cannot have electrical equipment or be used after hours. The installation of solar panels donated by volunteers Elizabeth and Brian Kuykendall, owners of Kuykendall Solar, provides basic power to these four schools, addressing some of these issues.

Benefits:

  • Schools can light some classrooms, allowing teachers and staff to meet and work after hours

  • Teachers can charge their mobile phones without walking several kilometers

  • Outside lighting has made surroundings safer
